‘F**k Yourself Biscuit Fat-Ass!’ Watch Chris Cuomo’s Stunning and Unforgettable Talk With Tourette’s Influencer
Not many people would be so easygoing while being called a “fat ass” on live TV, but NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo took it in stride. He was also well aware that when those words came out of the mouth of a young woman with Tourette’s syndrome, there was no reason to take it personally.
During a segment on Tuesday’s episode of Cuomo, the titular host welcomed Baylen Dupree, a 20-year-old who was diagnosed with the neurological disorder that is characterized by completely involuntary tics, both verbal and physical. Dupree has been using TikTok to raise awareness of her condition and help people understand it better since it’s such a complex condition to understand; Tourette’s-related tics can manifest as everything from nonsense words and physical movements that can be hidden to obscenities and even racial slurs as well as movements that can cause injuries to the person or others.
Dupree’s tics were on full display during her interview with Cuomo, and that was the point. She cursed, she flipped the bird, she spouted insults in a variety of accents, all of it against her will. (It can be compared to sneezing.)
And Cuomo, who shared his own prior misunderstanding of the condition (he prefaced his interview by saying “I thought she was just a great comedic actor and, you know, doing blue material”), gave his audience a caveat before playing the interview:
I’m not going to censor her. Yeah, she’s going to say some things that you would not want to say yourself, let alone have said to you, which is probably going to be my position. But as I told Baylen just moments ago, she’s not going to say anything to me that my whole team hasn’t wanted to say since the day that they met me. But I love the bravery and I love that we can get through the stigma and just treat somebody with decency because we all deserve it.
At that point, Cuomo welcomed Dupree on, asking her what she wanted the viewers to learn from her. Her tics are in parentheses to separate them from what she actually said:
I want people to learn that Tourette’s is neural, is a neurological, involuntary motor and vocal disorder. (Fuck off. Fuck off. Fuck off.) I don’t tic 24/7, and there’s a lot of… (Little baby weiners. Fuck off. Fuck you, Chris.) There’s a lot of things that people don’t understand. Like if people think that cussing is with everyone who has Tourette syndrome, but it’s only in 10 percent of people with Tourette’s.
For his part, Cuomo couldn’t really help but giggle at some of Dupree’s tics, like when she gave the middle finger to the camera, but it’s clear that he knew what the deal was and treated Dupree with respect, letting her talk and being good-natured throughout their conversation. Even this part:
I also get very evil people that would comment and say like (Go fuck yourself, Chris. Little baby weiners. Banana up your ass. Butter your own biscuit, fat ass.) That have told me that my parents deserved to die in a car accident because I am faking my condition.
After they discussed Dupree’s new mission to become a physical therapist, something she says helps with her tics, they wrapped up their conversation with Cuomo assuring Dupree that “I’ve had people say a lot worse,” which made her laugh.
