WATCH: David Chang’s MAD Opening Talk Will Make You Want To Conquer the World

Consider this your morning inspiration.

Opening last summer’s MAD symposium (can we talk about how long we’ve been waiting to see this video?) was Momofuku’s David Chang, starring as your motivational speaker. The theme: Guts. Metaphorical ones and physical ones. He starts:

“Why the theme? it seems like when i’m with Rene [Redzepi] and other chefs, and younger chefs come up to us and ask how did we do it, or how did you become successful… Besides team effort, it all starts with a seed, a plant of an idea. For us, you have to be unwavering in that idea.

I think it’s really accurately reflected in combination of courage, conviction, and being fearless and stupid at the same time.”

Feeling inspired yet? Chang talks about Momofuku’s humble beginnings (“It was a place that never should have existed”), how stupid decisions pay off, and how your situation — whether opening an acclaimed restaurant or whatever else you put your little mind to — is not life or death. And while not everyone might be on board with MAD as a whole, we could put this talk on repeat every morning and feel set to take on the world.
