Donald Trump’s Love for Fast Food May Be Mutual

Trump-e1462475398677Donald Trump’s love for fast food is well-documented. He has appeared in a commercial for Pizza Hut, vocalized his enjoyment of Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and has, on more than one occasion, posed with burgers and fried chicken from fast food chains on his private plane.

It seems that fast food may love him back. Food & Wine scoured OpenSecrets and found, first of all, that there is a PAC called TACO PAC. According to the group’s website, TACO PAC “provides a way for individuals to join their contribution and voice with those of other Taco Bell Franchisees and supporters.” For them, this involves giving a lot of money to Republican campaigns over the years. This year, they’ve given$3,500 to Democrats and $53,625 to Republicans. 5,000 of those dollars have gone to Trump’s campaign, which is the maximum amount a PAC can give to a single candidate.

As Grub Street pointed out, the irony of this is not lost on anyone. From 1978-1994, Taco Bell’s slogan was “Make a run for the border,” which if Trump has it his way, would be a run that just leads you to a gigantic wall. The chain is, however, owned by Yum! brands, the same parent company that owns Pizza Hut and KFC. So the whole thing kind of makes sense.
