Gilt Taste Nixes Its Editorial Component, Ruth Reichl Is The Eternal Editor Without A Magazine
Poor Ruth Reichl. Besides getting to sit next to the delicious Francis Lam while mocking cheftestants with her sassy gay friend James Oseland on Top Chef: Masters, what’s she got going for her? Sure, she was once the famed editor of Gourmet Magazine, but the publication went under with that whole Death of Print Media thing (still a sore spot for food enthusiasts, we know).
Last year, she was hired as the editorial adviser for the newly launching website/grocer/online magazine Gilt Taste, and we thought things were finally going to pick back up for Ruth. But the Gilt Groupe has just announced that it will be scaling back “some of its unprofitable businesses,” and among them is — you guessed it — Taste.
The shmancy online grocery store part won’t go away forever; instead, it will focus on seasonal and holiday stock, as well as wines and champagne. But the editorial component of Gilt Taste will all but dissolve. Reichl is supposedly staying on as “a consultant,” but it seems like homegirl and her dirtysexycool food tweets are out of a job yet again.
Somebody please just let Ruth drop her acid and play her bongos all over your magazine, already. We like her a lot.
