WATCH: Jon Stewart Points Out How NYC Soda Ban Could Make Sprite Twice As Illegal As Pot
We know the nanny-state soda ban debate rageth, but Jon Stewart helped put some key issues into perspective for New Yorkers last night on The Daily Show, namely tied to the fact that Governor Cuomo is also proposing new legislation that would allow New Yorkers to carry up to 25 grams of marijuana on them without legal repercussion. You heard us. Grams. Or, about 8 eighths, by Jon’s scale. So, to recap: 16+ ounces of soda = a $200 fine. 25+ grams of weed = a $100 fine and no misdemeanor charges. For the most part, chefs seem to be weighing in on the “meh” side of the soda ban debate, but we’re pretty sure decriminalizing pot would pique their interests.
BRB, guys. We’re going to go grow some ideas in the garden of our minds, but you should watch Jon Stewart tackle the issues below.
