A tense exchange erupted Wednesday afternoon in the White House briefing room between frequent Trump administration critic April Ryan and conservative radio host John Fredericks, according to The Spectator’s Cockburn Diary.

The altercation unfolded just before the press briefing began.

Fredericks, an enthusiastic supporter of President Donald Trump, reportedly entered the room and immediately launched into a tirade about how the briefings were conducted under the president’s first term.

He reportedly complained that he “never got to ask questions” because of the presence of reporters like Ryan with Black Press USA and former CNN White House Correspondent Jim Acosta. Fredericks then disparagingly referred to Ryan as “the woman from urban radio,” sources told The Spectator.

From there, per the report, the tension escalated when Ryan heard the radio host. Ryan reportedly confronted Fredericks and demanded an apology.

People who were present for the moment said Fredericks doubled down and accused Ryan and other legacy media reporters of “stealing the spotlight” during what he categorized as their previous monopoly over the briefing room before this year’s new media rules went into effect.

“He was railing on reporters in there, and the room is made up of reporters. A lot of these people are reporters,” Ryan said of the spat. “And I’m sitting there and I’m just listening to him rail, you know, and then he jumps on me. I’m like, ‘I’m not the one.’ I’m saying to myself, ‘I’m not the one.’ And I told him, ‘Mind your business and leave me out. You know, just leave me alone.’”

Fredericks reportedly replied with sarcasm, telling Ryan, “Nice mask.”

Ryan reportedly fired back and said she was wearing a mask to shield herself from Fredericks and his “bad breath.”

Journalist Richie McGinniss told The Spectator of the back and forth, “I can confirm, his breath was ripe.”

Ryan reportedly concluded her end of the exchange by telling Frederick, I don’t know why you wanna start something, I’m here minding my business over here… I don’t give a damn about your political persuasion, leave me out of your mouth.”

Fredericks reportedly replied, “I see you’re as pleasant as ever.”
