Elon Musk slammed President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful” budget bill, yet again, on Monday, but this time went so far as to call for the formation of a new political party to stop Trump’s “insane” deficit spending.
“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” Musk wrote on X, adding:
Time for a new political party that actually cares about the people.
Musk followed his post up with another, jabbing the House Freedom Caucus, whose members mostly voted for the House version of the bill. “How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history?” Musk asked, tagging Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Andy Harris (R-MD).
“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” Musk later added, making a clear threat to help primary challengers to incumbent Republicans.
Musk has pulled no punches in opposing the bill, which led to a very public back-and-forth exchange of insults between the Tesla billionaire and the president — who Musk helped reelect with over 250 million dollars in donations.
“The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!” Musk wrote on X Saturday, weeks after leaving his special government job with DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency). “Utterly insane and destructive. It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”
Musk broke with Trump in early June over the president’s sweeping tax and spending bill, which also cut tax credits for electric vehicles. The insults ramped up to the point that Musk went so far as to publicly accuse the Trump administration of concealing the Jeffrey Epstein files because Trump was in them. The “Epstein Files” refer to the long-held conspiracy theory that the government has a secret record of everyone who engaged in illicit behavior with convicted sex trafficker Epstein — who killed himself in jail. Musk later deleted the tweet and made overtures at reconciling with Trump.
At the time of their public spat, Musk also raised the idea of forming a third party. “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” Musk wrote on X, polling his followers with a “yes” and “no” reply option.
