Suspect ID’d in Killing of Minnesota Democrats As Former Tim Walz Board Appointee

The man suspected of posing as a police officer and shooting two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers Saturday has been identified as a person previously appointed by Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council.
Julio Rosas with TheBlaze shared a copy of a notarized appointment signed by Walz shows Vance Luther Boelter was named to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board as a business member.
The Associated Press later confirmed Boelter as the suspect.

The letter reads, “Because of the special trust and confidence I have in your integrity, judgment, and ability, I have appointed and commissioned you to have and to hold the office of Business Member, GOVERNOR’S WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD.”
The document was signed by Walz.
Rosas reported. “I’m told by a police source in Minnesota the suspect in the shootings of MN state lawmakers is Vance Luther Boelter. It appears it is the same Boelter who was appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Board in 2019 by Gov. Tim Walz. He appointed to the Governor’s Workforce Development Council in 2016 by then-Gov. Mark Dayton.”
The New York Post also reported:
Vance Luther Boelter allegedly posed as a police officer when he shot Sen. John Hoffman and his wife in their Champlin home early Saturday, leaving them seriously injured before moving on to former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman’s house — where he is believed to have slaughtered her and her husband, sources told The Post.
Authorities say a man posed as a law enforcement officer early Saturday morning to gain entry to a residence in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Democratic State House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed.
Shortly afterward, the same suspect allegedly targeted Democratic State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Both Hoffmans were shot and survived. They remain hospitalized in stable condition.
Police said at a Saturday morning press conference that the attacks appeared to be politically motivated.
