A New Jersey man was arrested, charged, and pleaded guilty this week for making threats against Candace Owens following her debate with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach on Piers Morgan’s show. Owens took to social media and fumed that the FBI had not quickly informed her of the case or plot against her.

Haim Braverman was charged with transmitting a threat in interstate and foreign commerce, allegedly saying things like, “you’ll get what’s coming to you.” He also allegedly posted that he was “threatening” her with a “death sentence.”

Owens posted about the incident in a series of X posts where she revealed the FBI contacting her was the first she’d heard of Braverman or his threats.

“In September of last year following my viral debate with Rabbi Shmuley, my family endured a series of attacks led by deranged zionists. Among many other things, on the 21st of that month, we were contacted by the FBI and informed that their department had ‘apprehended a suspect’ in relation to a crime involving a threat against me, but that they were unable to provide any further details because the ‘investigation was ongoing,'” Owens wrote.

She said she was then contacted in March and received a victim packet in April.

“In addition to publicly posting his intention to kill me, he similarly posted his plans in a group chat complete with photos of knives. After learning of the group chat, the FBI moved to arrest him. Haim Braverman by this time, has ALREADY PLED GUILTY, and I was not even informed of this group chat or this plan,” she wrote.

According to Owens, who has faced accusations of antisemitism from critics, Braverman was angry she’d “offended the dead Rabbi Menachem Schneerson who many Jews viewed as a messiah” during her debate on Morgan’s show.

“The motive of the crime was made clear to me by the FBI today. Haim wanted to murder me because of my
[Piers Morgan] debate against Shmuley,” she wrote. “[Because] I offended the dead Rabbi Menachem Schneerson who many Jews viewed as a messiah. Haim was unequivocal that he was willing to serve time in prison for killing me.

According to the Department of Justice, Braverman posted a video of himself in September 2024 in which he said, “fuck it I’ll give you the steel bat” as he was holding an actual bat. In a written post, he said Owens “needs to be killed.” Braverman entered a guilty plea in a federal court in Newark. His scheduling is set for September 15.
