Chuck Todd Rips Trump ICE Agents: Not Saying They’re ‘Bringing This On Themselves — But…’
Independent media entrepreneur and broadcast veteran Chuck Todd said that ICE agents aren’t “bringing” violent attacks “on themselves” — but then asked about their tactics, which he likened to “jack-booted thugs.”
The shooting at an ICE detention facility that claimed the lives of two migrant detainees — allegedly at the hands of an anti-ICE suspect — is one of several examples of violence against President Donald Trump’s deportation forces.
On Thursday’s edition of The Chuck Toddcast podcast, Todd wrapped up with a commentary that began with a surreal riff on the Tom Homan bribery story and ended with a denunciation of Trump’s “nihilistic” government creating “nihilists”:
CHUCK TODD: The most astonishing aspect of the entire Tom Homan story, the border guy who took the 50 grand, is that A, there’s no denial that he took the fifty grand. And B, they’re just sort of like, nothing to see here. We’ve just shut down the investigation.
I mean, it’s, you’re just like, are we really living in normal times, right? Or are we, or did Biff take the gambling book and he went back in time and we’re living on some alternative timeline, right. Sometimes I buy into the alternative timeline thing all the time, because you see his behavior, and you’re like.
At some point, Sacha Baron Cohen is going to rip off his Trump mask and tell us that this has been a gag the whole time, right? Like, there’s not a 0% chance of this, right. There’s like a 0.5% chance. Donald Trump is the biggest Sacha Baron Cohen gag that we’ve ever, ever had, President Borat.
But in all seriousness, you got one side not believing it. Now you’re going to use and politicize the Justice Department and the FBI.
And there’s already a congressman, Mark Veasey, I don’t trust anything the FBI says, right?
They had the, overnight we had another attack on an ICE facility. This is very troubling. And apparently it is anti–. People who are angry at ICE, it’s certainly politicized violence.
And I– please, will everybody stop trying to decide whose side is more prone to violence? The fact of the matter is nobody’s hands are clean and violence is only going to beget more violence. All right, we have to turn down the rhetoric, turn down these things, right. It doesn’t help, right?
I’m not going to sit here and say ICE is bringing this upon themselves. But why are we masking the agents when they come after people? This is America, this is not jackbooted thugs coming in at the, you know, that is not what America is supposed to be!
And so all of this stuff is going to get met —
When you sort of govern in a nihilistic way, you’re going to end up creating a lot of nihilists.
And that’s a very scary proposition for those of us that would like to live in free, normal America.
