CNN Analyst Raves About Trump: I Give Him ‘Extremely High Marks’ for ‘Managing This Crisis’

CNN global affairs analyst Brett McGurk was unsparing in his praise of President Donald Trump following his announcement of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran.

Speaking with Anderson Cooper on AC:360 Monday night, McGurk — who served in top national security roles for the last four presidents, including Trump during his first term — said that while the t’s may not yet be crossed and the I’s may not be dotted, the current state of play couldn’t be much better.

“Bottom line, this is about the best place we can be,” McGurk said. “I give extremely high marks to this national security team and President Trump for managing this crisis and getting where we are.”

McGurk went on to acknowledge the need for Trump and his team to “follow through.” But he added that it was difficult to envision how much progress has been made in recent days, and suggested that another major agreement could be on the horizon.

“There’s a chance for diplomacy here,” McGurk said. “Not only on the Iran side, but also in Gaza. Those talks are also going on back channel in Cairo, there’s a Hamas delegation there. Try to get that ceasefire in place. And you can come out of this in a place that is far better than we would have anticipated 10 nights ago.”

Host Anderson Cooper added, “I keep using the term remarkable, but it is just an extraordinary turn of events just in the last 24 hours.”
