CNN’s Scott Jennings Teases Announcement Amid Rumors of Trump-Backed Senate Campaign: ‘Something Big Is Coming’

CNN’s Scott Jennings teased an announcement on Friday as rumors continue to swirl about him mounting a campaign for the seat currently occupied by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
“Something big is coming. Stay tuned,” wrote Jennings in a post on X that included a picture of him standing next to President Donald Trump, who is holding a document with its contents blurred out.
Jennings, who has served as a conservative strategist and commentator, previously worked for both McConnell and former President George W. Bush.
According to Deseret News, Jennings mused last Saturday that “If the president wants me, I’ll run” for the seat that McConnell is retiring from, adding that, “If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate.”
The subtext of Jennings’s post, unless it’s a ruse, is that the president wants him to run.
Jennings recently spoke at a rally in Michigan to celebrate Trump’s first 100 days in office, where the president invited him to the podium by declaring, “We have a man here that I don’t know, but he’s defending me all the time on CNN. He defends me really well, but he can’t go too far or he’ll get fired. He takes it right to the edge, but he’d be off the air if he went too crazy, which he’d love to do!”
“This is the end of Scott! Oh, who cares? Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you, Scott,” continued Trump.
Jennings was critical of Trump during the 2024 Republican presidential primary. But over the last year, he has emerged as one of the president’s most ubiquitous and steadfast defenders on television news, frequently sparring with his more liberal colleagues on CNN over a wide variety of issues.
After Trump’s victory last fall, Jennings was reportedly in the running for White House press secretary.
