Elon Musk said that he “regrets some of” his recent social media posts against President Donald Trump, marking a sharp and public reversal after last week’s online dust-up.
The billionaire tech mogul admitted some of his posts on X “went too far” after a week-long social war with the president. Musk took to X early Wednesday morning to write:
Musk did not clarify which attacks he regretted.
The former ‘first buddy’ had taken aim at Trump’s “big beautiful bill,” called for his impeachment and, more explosively, claimed that the president appeared in files connected to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. That post, among others, was quietly deleted by Sunday.
In response, Trump told ABC News that Musk had “lost his mind” and threatened to pull federal contracts from the tech mogul’s companies. He claimed to have asked Musk to leave the White House because he was exhausted and hinted that future cooperation between the government and Musk’s ventures could be in jeopardy.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt batted down Musk’s Epstein insinuations at the time as a distraction and dismissed the tirade as “an unfortunate episode from Elon.”
The public spat briefly knocked $150 billion off Tesla’s market cap, though shares have since rebounded.
