‘Far From a Done Deal’: Fox News’ Chad Pergram Casts Doubt Over the Fate of Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’

Fox News’ Chad Pergram cast doubt on the fate of President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” while reporting from Capitol Hill on Tuesday as the president visits to try to get the thin GOP majority in the House of Representatives on board.

The sweeping legislation is intended to be the signature domestic achievement of Trump’s second term, and touches on a wide variety of issues, from taxes, to welfare reform, to energy, to immigration.

But although Trump sounded an optimistic note while speaking with reporters on the Hill, Pergram suggested that as of this moment, the president doesn’t have the votes.

“Well, you talk about generating a buzz here, what he [Trump] needs to generate are votes,” began Pergram. “I talked to Thomas Massie, the Republican from Kentucky, who said he’s an absolute no. I talked a few minutes ago to Ralph Norman. He is a Republican from South Carolina who eventually voted present to get that measure out of the Budget Committee on Sunday night. He says, ‘I have to go back and read through the bill. I have see potential changes that Mike Johnson is going to drop into this, probably in the dead of night sometime in the next 24 hours.’ He said that takes some time to process.”

“So this is far from a done deal,” continued the longtime political reporter. “This is probably the highest stakes poker that President Trump has played on domestic policy during his second term, because he has to get this bill through. He talks about the art of the deal. He needs to get the votes. And as I always say, it’s about the math. If they were to put this bill on the floor right now, it would not pass.”
