Fox News Anchor Confronts GOP Senator About Trump’s Tesla Photo Op: Was That ‘Sensitive to the Moment We’re in?’

A Fox News anchor confronted a Republican Senator about the optics of President Donald Trump’s photo op promoting Teslas on the White House lawn.

In an interview on Fox News Sunday, Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich — filling in for regular anchor Shannon Bream — challenged Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) about Trump promoting the electric vehicles with his senior advisor Elon Musk, who is the CEO of Tesla.

“There was basically a display at the White House there, he surveyed some cars,” Heinrich said. “It was happening as Americans’ 401k accounts were facing some struggles because of this tariff war happening right now. Was that an appropriate thing for the president to do there? Was it sensitive to the moment that we’re in buying a car — using the White House as a backdrop for that?”

Moreno went to bat for the president.

“Well, first of all, he’s promoting American-made products,” Moreno said. “I applaud him for doing that. He’s not the first president to do that. Most presidents have done something like it in the past. Joe Biden did it in his term and excluded Tesla. I think at the end of the day, you have Democrats now being anti-EV, so maybe we get some balance now because they were only EV.”

“I guess we’ll have to find out if AOC still has hers,” Heinrich replied.

At the event itself — which took place on the White House lawn Tuesday — Fox News’ other senior White House correspondent, Peter Doocy, asked a similar question of Trump himself.

“What is your message, President Trump, buying a new car,” Doocy said, “while there are some folks who will see this clip at home and they are struggling with their retirement accounts down at the moment? Uncertainty about work ahead?”

“Well, I think they’re gonna do great,” Trump said — with Musk standing by his side. He added, “Our country had to do this.”
