Ghislaine Maxwell’s lawyer sent a letter to the House Oversight Committee on Tuesday, revealing a list of demands ahead of her testimony in order to avoid the convicted sex trafficker pleading the Fifth Amendment and not answering any questions.

“Our initial reaction was that Ms. Maxwell would invoke her Fifth Amendment rights and decline to testify at this time,” wrote Maxwell’s lawyer David Oscar Markus to Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY), adding, “However, after further reflection we would like to find a way to cooperate with Congress if a fair and safe path forward can be established.”

Oscar Markus added, “First, public reports-including your own statements-indicate that the Committee intends to question Ms. Maxwell in prison and without a grant of immunity. Those are non-starters.”

“Ms. Maxwell cannot risk further criminal exposure in a politically charged environment without formal immunity. Nor is a prison setting conducive to eliciting truthful and complete testimony. The potential for leaks from such a setting creates real security risks and undermines the integrity of the process,” he added. Oscar Markus later also asked that Maxwell be given questions in advance as well as being granted immunity from future prosecution and a change of location.

Maxwell’s lawyer also sought to postpone the August 11th hearing date until after the Supreme Court ruled on her appeal of her sex-trafficking conviction.

In recent days, speculation has abounded over whether or not President Donald Trump is considering pardoning Maxwell in exchange for some kind of public exoneration regarding his relationship with Epstein. Trump fanned the flames earlier in the month by saying he had the power to pardon Maxwell, whom he famously wished well when she was facing sex trafficking charges.
