Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) has found an unlikely ally in the face of reports about his health and mental stability that are ringing alarm bells.

Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) took to X Friday morning to defend Fetterman, urging his followers to “stop these vicious, personal attacks against Senator Fetterman, his wife, and his health.”

He added: “He is authentic, decent, principled, and a fighter. These disgraceful smears against him are not the John that I know and respect.”

Fetterman has been plagued by reports about his behavior, mental health, and marriage since a New York magazine piece titled “John Fetterman’s Struggle” was published late last week.

In it, writer Ben Terris spoke to several current and former Fetterman staffers who raised concerns about the senator’s health and well-being.

Fetterman rejected the report as a “hit piece from a very left publication.”

But then the Associated Press reported on a contentious meeting with teachers’ union officials during which Fetterman was described as slamming his hands on a desk while shouting, “Why does everyone hate me?!”

The incident, which took place a day before the New York piece dropped, reportedly left a staffer in tears.
