Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick just can’t stop pitching President Donald Trump’s “beautiful” new “golden” investor visa to foreign officials and elites – pushing the residency scheme as hard as a salesman at a yacht show.
Lutnick admitted to the Financial Times that he has been selling the so-called Trump Card to foreign dignitaries and business leaders from Riyadh to Palo Alto, promising U.S. legal residency for a cool $5 million. Nearly 70,000 have reportedly already joined the waiting list, according to internal figures cited by the Commerce Department.
“Whenever I meet with international executives,” he told the FT, “I always go through it with them and sell it to them. I can’t help myself.”
“The card will be made of gold,” he added. “It will be beautiful.”
He added: “Donald Trump appreciates these kinds of things. He cares about how it looks. He cares about how it feels.”
The residency-for-cash scheme, launched via TrumpCard.gov, prominently features Trump’s face, signature, and a bald eagle. Lutnick says it’s about national interest.
“If we sell 200,000 of them, we bring in a trillion dollars,” he claimed.
Originally conceived by Trump megadonor John Paulson, the Trump Card is already being eyed by global corporations as a fast-track residency lane for elite employees. One unnamed tech CEO told the FT his company would aim to buy over 100 cards if the plan comes to fruition.
Lutnick’s grand plan would replace the EB-5 visa, a long-standing immigrant investor program with a far lower buy-in. He’s said the Trump Card could roll out as early as this summer, but critical decisions remain — from tax treatment to country bans.
