‘I Was Offended!’ GOP Senator Fumes at Trump for Attacking Him on Truth Social

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) fired back at President Donald Trump for going after him on Truth Social.

At the outset of a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, the Iowa senator lashed out over Trump’s social media onslaught. The president, in a lengthy Truth Social post, challenged Grassley to eliminate the so-called “blue slip” rule — which allows senators from the home state of a judicial nominee to effectively block a nomination.

“He should do this, IMMEDIATELY, and not let the Democrats laugh at him and the Republican Party for being weak and ineffective,” Trump wrote. “The Democrats have broken this ridiculous custom on us, it’s time that we break it on them. Chuck, I know you have the Courage to do this, DO IT!”

Trump proceeded to amplify posts from other Truth Social users calling Grassley a “RINO” and “sneaky.”

Grassley defended his opposition to doing away with the blue slip rule — which largely stems from a concern that a future Democratic majority could use the elimination of the rule to their advantage — and made clear his displeasure with Trump’s attacks.

“I was surprised to see President Trump on Truth Social go after me and Senate Republicans over what we call the Blue Slip,” Grassley said. “Now the people in the real America — not here in this Washington D.C. and island surrounded by reality — the people in real America don’t care about what the blue slip is. But in fact, it impacts, in their states, the district judges who serve their communities and the U.S. Attorneys who ensure the law and order is enforced.”

“I was offended by what the President said. And I’m disappointed that it would result in personal insults,” added the senior Republican.
