Independent journalist Jesse Singal challenged Vice President JD Vance to a debate on his podcast after the veep accused Singal of trafficking in “smug, self-assured bullshit” during a social media battle on Wednesday.

The feud began after Singal took issue with Vance’s arguments in a separate back-and-forth regarding the Trump administration’s erroneous deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia to El Salvador, where he is currently being detained in a notorious prison. The administration maintains that it has no power to bring Abrego Garcia back, even though the Supreme Court has ordered it to “facilitate” his return.

After Vance asked his other interlocutor if the U.S. should “give a jury trial to all 20 million illegal aliens,” Singal shot back, “Joining the Trump bandwagon means you either need to be dumb or pretend to be dumb. JD Vance might have mortgaged his morality and his legacy, but he’s not dumb. He doesn’t actually think anyone’s proposing 20 million trials. Rather, he knows he has very, very dumb supporters.”

“I hate this smug, self-assured bullshit. ‘I know I’m right, and people must be dumb or immoral to disagree with me,'” mused Vance. “It’s an easy way to go through life, because then you never have to think seriously about why your worldview is a justification for the mass invasion of the country my ancestors built with their bare hands.”

He continued:

None of these people can articulate a deportation standard that:
1) would satisfy left-wing critics of the administration’s immigration policy;
2) would satisfy their intuitions about what “due process” is required;
3) would be workable given resource constraints; and
4) would permit deportation of most of the illegal immigrants allowed under Joe Biden’s administration.

They want to nullify the results of a democratic election. It’s that simple.

Singal responded by urging Vance to come discuss the subject on his show, Blocked and Reported.

“Dude, if you’re gonna respond to journalists on Twitter anyway, why not come on my podcast we can actually have a conversation about this?” he asked. “If you have an iota of courage you’ll make your case to a generally skeptical audience rather than lob bombs on Twitter.”
