Jake Tapper Reveals He Called Lara Trump to Tell Her She Was Right About Biden

CNN’s Jake Tapper has revealed he called Lara Trump to let her know she was right when she challenged him on former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline in a contentious 2020 interview.

The moment came as Tapper was grilled by Megyn Kelly about dismissing Trump when she proposed Biden was showing signs of cognitive decline when he spoke to her on The Lead With Jake Tapper nearly five years ago.

At the time, Tapper confronted Trump about a comment she made about Biden, in which she said, “Every time he comes on stage and they turn to him, I’m like, ‘Joe, can you get it out. Let’s get the words out.'”

“How do you think it makes little kids with stutters feel when they see you make a comment like that?” Tapper asked Trump.

“First and foremost, I had no idea that Joe Biden ever suffered from a stutter. I think what we see on stage with Joe Biden, Jake, is very clearly a cognitive decline. That’s what I’m referring to.”

“This is so amazing. I think you were mocking his stutter,” Tapper retorted.  He then shut down the interview, saying, “And I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody’s cognitive decline.”

During his appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show Tuesday, Kelly asked him: “Do you want to apologize to Lara Trump now?”

“I’ve already apologized to her,” said Tapper, who was on to promote his new book with Axios reporter Alex Thompson. “I called her months ago.”

He declined to elaborate on their “private” conversation, but did say that “she would never mock anybody’s stutter.”

“I feel angry because she was right and not only did you not allow her to make her comments, but you seemed to try to humiliate her,” Kelly shot back. “You had a hostility toward the position, but she was totally right and then you lectured her on you said she was in no position to diagnose cognitive decline, which you guys do at length, including on page 4 of your book. You describe at length his cognitive decline, which is all she tried to do with you.”
