Jeffrey Epstein offered himself as a conduit for Russian officials seeking to understand President Donald Trump, weeks ahead of a 2018 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland.

The offer was revealed among over 20,000 Epstein documents released by the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday, showing the late financier’s correspondence with a broad web of international contacts that cover a period during Trump’s first term in office.

In a June 24, 2018, message to Thorbjorn Jagland, then head of the Council of Europe, Epstein wrote: “I think you might suggest to putin that lavrov can get insight on talking to me,” referring to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Epstein also claimed to have discussed Trump with Vitaly Churkin, Moscow’s late ambassador to the UN.

“Churkin was great,” Epstein wrote. “He understood trump after our conversations. it is not complex. he must be seen to get something its that simple.”

In other messages, Epstein described Trump’s meeting with Putin as “predictable,” telling Larry Summers the next day: “He thinks he has charmed his adversary… He has no idea of the symbolism.”

Epstein’s correspondence also shows him advising Steve Bannon on European influence and boasting of gifts from Saudi Arabia’s crown prince.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the released emails “prove absolutely nothing other than President Trump did nothing wrong.”
