‘John Fetterman Has Come a Long Way’: GOP Lawmaker Praises Senator as the Only ‘Common Sense’ Leader Among Dems
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) is heaping praise on his Democratic colleague Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) after Fetterman announced he would vote for the Republican government spending bill.
“It wasn’t long ago that we were scolding the Republicans threatening to shut the government down,” said Fetterman in a clip played on Newsmax’s Newsline. “I don’t know how my colleagues are gonna go, but you know, not because I support the CR, the idea, but I am unwilling to vote to shut the government down.”
Reacting on Newsmax to Fetterman’s remarks on Thursday, Tuberville said, “John Fetterman has come a long way. He’s had all kind of health issues since he got here, but I’ll tell you what, he is the only leader out there that’s speaking common sense.”
Tuberville continued, “I call it the woke mind virus, that’s what the Democrats have. They don’t wanna work with anybody, they don’t wanna work to save this country. There’s no way they’re gonna shut this government down, it would be political suicide. They’ll come to an agreement tomorrow somehow, some way.”
He concluded, “If they shut it down, it’s their fault, the ball’s in their court, let them do it, but at the end of the day, they don’t have enough guts to do it.”
Fetterman has received criticism from liberals over his perceived “rightward shift” in recent months, which even led to rumors that the senator was considering switching parties.
In February, a former staff accused Fetterman of being a “useful idiot for Republicans,” while in December, Fetterman said he was “rooting” for President Donald Trump to be a good president.
After a meeting between Trump and Fetterman in January, Trump described the senator as a “fascinating man” and said he “couldn’t be more impressed.”
“He’s a commonsense person. He’s not liberal or conservative. He’s just a commonsense person, which is beautiful,” praised Trump. “He really was impressive, and I’m glad I got to speak to him. And he loves Pennsylvania, and he loves our country.”
