Karoline Leavitt Insists Trump Needs Filibuster Abolished to Deal With ‘Crazed’ Democrats

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fully supported President Donald Trump’s call to abolish the filibuster during an appearance on Fox News on Sunday morning, saying it was necessary to avoid future government shutdowns and the need to deal with Democratic lawmakers, who she said are “crazed people.”

Leavitt shared her thoughts on the matter during an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures. Bartiromo, in her first question, asked Leavitt if the president had talked to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), after a rep for Thune said he is not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster.

The press secretary said Trump had spoken to Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) about his idea, before adding he is “100% right” about it.

“Let’s talk about what we are dealing with here — radical-left democrats who have shut our government down and held the American people hostage for 32 days in a row,” Leavitt started off by saying.

She then ran through a laundry list of issues piling up because of the shutdown, including SNAP benefits going unpaid and air traffic controller shortages. Leavitt said these issues are all due to the Dems being unwilling to cut a deal and reopen the government — which is why ditching the filibuster is necessary, she said.

“Democrats are not showing any sign of wanting to reopen the government. They want to give taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens. These are crazed people that President Trump and republicans are having to deal with,” Leavitt said. “And that’s why President Trump has said Republicans need to get tough, they need to get smart, and they need to use this option to get rid of the filibuster to reopen the government and do right by the American public.”

She added that polling and “common sense” show that most Americans want the shutdown to end and would support it.

Her comment comes a day after the president, for the second time since Thursday, urged Republicans to not be “WEAK AND STUPID” and to “TERMINATE” the filibuster.
