Ryan J. Reilly, NBC justice reporter and author of Sedition Hunters, caught a touching moment between investigative reporter Forrest Rogers and Michael Fanone, the DC police officer who was assaulted during the January 6th insurrection.

Rogers is an investigator with the Sedition Hunters, a group that has been identifying people who attended the January 6 insurrection. One such person was Daniel Rodriguez, who tased Fanone in the neck and was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for the assault. At a bookstore event, Fanone touted Rogers’ work with the Sedition Hunters and showed his gratitude with a symbolic gift: the handcuffs that Rodriguez held up as a trophy after assaulting Fanone. He told the small crowd in attendance:

So many Americans, even those living abroad, saw what happened on January 6th were fucking outraged and they did something about it. They used skills that they had that, you know, unfortunately, law enforcement is a little bit behind in acquiring. And they went out there and they identify these guys. And at least with regards to Rodriguez, he would not be in custody at this point had it not been for the efforts of Mr. Rogers and his cohorts at the Sedition Hunters. So I’m incredibly appreciative.

Reilly caught the moment on video, which he posted to Twitter/X along with a couple of photos:

According to the Department of Justice, nearly 1,100 people have been charged with crimes or misdemeanors related to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
