Nancy Mace’s Recent Anti-Trans Position At Extreme Odds With Her Pro-Trans Position from Just Three Years Ago

Longtime followers of U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) may be confused with her crusade regarding transgender bathroom access as it is in direct opposition of her prior support of the community.
On Wednesday, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced that trans women would not be allowed to use women’s bathrooms in the Capitol. Calls for the ban were spearheaded by Mace earlier in the week, who did so in response to Representative-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE) becoming the first openly trans member of Congress in the country’s history.
Mace’s push for the ban was practically incessant online. As noted by MeidasTouch’s Ron Filipkowski, Mace tweeted about the trans bathroom issue more than 260 times within 36 hours — repeatedly referring to trans women as men and implying those who transition have a mental illness.
Those tweets, however, are at odds with how Mace felt about the LGBTQ community just a few years ago. In a March 2021 tweet, Mace claimed she “strongly” supported LGBTQ rights.
“No one should be discriminated against,” she continued in the tweet.
“Religious liberty, gay rights, and transgender equality can all coexist. I’m also a constitutionalist. We have to ensure anti-discrimination laws don’t violate religious freedom.”
That twee was in reference to H.R. 1440. Known as the Fairness For All Act, the bill prohibits discrimination “on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity; and to protect the free exercise of religion.”
In June 2021, Mace posted a tweet acknowledging Pride Month.
“The pandemic kept all of us from fully celebrating Pride here in the Lowcountry in 2020,” she said. “But hopefully, as we finally begin to open back up, we can all come together to celebrate the challenges our LGBTQ+ has overcome, and the bright future ahead.”
