Pro-Trump Host Evokes Slavery In Bonkers IVF Rant — Fertility Clinics Are ‘Selling People’
Pro-Trump podcast host Michael Knowles compared IVF to slavery, repeatedly saying ex-President Donald Trump and other Republicans are supporting an industry that “sells people.”
The Alabama Supreme Court unleashed political hell recently with a decision ruling that embryos frozen for IVF treatments are actual children, and destroying them can be considered wrongful death. Many Republicans, including Trump, have rushed to distance themselves from what has turned out to be a shockingly unpopular decision.
But Knowles, an influential Trump supporter and host of the Daily Wire podcast The Michael Knowles Show, has been railing against IVF for a very long time and in favor of the decision over the course of several shows.
This week, one such rant went viral on social media, a December screed in which Knowles called IVF an “intrinsically evil” action that can’t be justified, applying the same “logic” as to pregnancies conceived by rape.
In another episode this week, Knowles slammed Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) for opposing the decision, and advised Trump and other Republicans to change course on IVF and stop expressing support for it.
Several times during that show, Knowles alluded to fertility clinics as places that “sell people” and imprison them:
If we as pro-lifers really believe that life begins at conception, then that raises all sorts of problems for the IVF and surrogacy industry. Because the IVF and surrogacy industry, first of all, sells human life. And two, I mean, that is the product. It’s the only product you could possibly be buying in the IVF and surrogacy industry.
…There are moral ways to create people in immoral ways, and the ends don’t justify the means. Then I think we all have to acknowledge there are some bioethical issues here with in vitro fertilization. Maybe the wise thing to do not to come out as defenders of an industry that sells people.
…when you follow your reasoning, you say, okay, this life begins at conception. Okay. So should we be able to buy and sell human beings?
Knowles has made the comparison to slavery more explicitly in the past. In one episode, he went off on a gay couple who shared their search for an egg donor on TikTok. Knowles enacted a skit imagining the couple at a slave market:
Yay! So we were going out. We were going look to where we could buy our cotton picker. You know, so we went to the market we wanted. We knew we wanted a cotton picker with nice big broad shoulders and nice, thick, stalky legs like tree trunks, you know, do a great job out there in the field.
And so we went. The first one didn’t work out. Second one we couldn’t quite get him at the, at the fair. But the third one finally we got him. Isn’t that great. Yeah. And as a result, isn’t that great?
Call me crazy. Call me old fashioned. Call me some fuddy duddy. I think it’s wrong to buy people. I think that’s wrong, and most people seem to agree with that concept when we talk about the past. You say, you know, going to a slave market and just viewing people as brute animals and then purchasing them and then having them as part of our household, that I was wrong.
We actually we fought a very bloody war that was in large part over that issue. And now we just we just do it again instead of instead of buying Black guys, we we buy the eggs of poor women.
