Republican Tells Fox News that Barack Obama and ‘Duplicitous’ Biden Are ‘Enemies of Israel’
T.W. Shannon, the former Republican speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, called former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden “enemies of Israel” during an appearance on The Faulkner Focus Thursday.
“Well, it seems to me that our president is playing politics with a very important issue. We all know that his heart is not in support of Israel. He is much like his predecessor, Barack Obama. And frankly, I think they could be almost considered enemies of Israel at this point,” declared Shannon.
He continued:
The truth is, they’ve abandoned our longstanding support and friendship that we’ve had with Israel. Yes, he’s talking — he’s the most duplicitous president, maybe in American history — because he’s saying one thing. But doing politics, he’s definitely playing politics during a presidential year, trying to pretend like they’re support for Israel. But ultimately, the reason [Benjamin] Netanyahu canceled the original meeting is because he knows that the support among Democrats for Israel is waning in a big way. They’ve abandoned him. And I think it’s a mistake long term, not just for Israel, but for the American people.
Shannon’s interlocutor, former New York state senator David Carlucci, objected to this characterization of Biden, arguing that his 2024 opponent, Donald Trump, is the one with the more dangerous approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“What we see is Biden trying to have peace, trying to move towards a resolution. There’s no easy answers here. There’s no silver bullet that’s going to solve this. Then you juxtapose it to the GOP nominee, Donald Trump,” submitted Carlucci. “And what is he saying? He’s saying just end the war. You know, end it soon. No talk about hostages, no talk about how you get there. It looks like Donald Trump is more of a publicity stunt than a foreign policy. If you question and try to get what he actually is going to do, no one can tell you.”
Notably, Trump opined that Israel was “losing the PR war” on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show Thursday.
“You’ve got to get it over with, and you have to get back to normalcy. And I’m not sure that I’m loving the way they’re doing it, because you’ve got to have victory. You have to have a victory, and it’s taking a long time,” said Trump.
