Republican Vents Spleen About Cutting Fauci’s Hypothetical Pay In Crack-of-Midnight Rant on House Floor
A GOP lawmaker vented at retired National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci — promising he’d “gladly” cut Fauci’s pay in an alternate universe where he never retired — in a dead-of-night rant on the floor of the House of Representatives.
As the Republican-led House tries to pass budget legislation to avert another government shutdown, Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) used his time on the House floor to try and pass amendments relitigating Dr. Fauci’s tenure by defunding programs that Fauci supported.
Shortly before midnight, Rosendale and Rep. Rosa DeLauro duked it out over Fauci’s legacy in dueling floor speeches that resulted in a surreal rant — flagged by Acyn Torabi — in which Rosendale promised the citizens of the Multiverse that somewhere, sometime, the Dr. Fauci who never retired (and maybe has hotdog fingers?) toils away for ZERO dollars — but would settle for cutting the pay of researcher Dr. Vincent Munster instead:
Mr. Chair, the representative from Connecticut spends a lot of time giving accolades to Anthony Fauci.
Well, I would like to tell you that we gladly would reduce his compensation to zero! And I would have tens of millions of Americans join me in making sure that that happens!
But he was smart enough to get out of town while the getting was good! He resigned. He retired.
Unfortunately, we’re going to be paying compensation to him for quite some time. But the subject this evening is the compensation of Vincent Munster, who acted in a negligent and reckless manner.
And I would reserve the right to to reduce his salary, or request the right to reduce his salary to zero with this amendment. With that, I ask all my colleagues support the amendment and I yield back.
The amendment was tabled when Rep. DeLauro demanded a recorded vote.
