Schiff Hits Back at Trump’s Latest Threat: Won’t ‘Distract From His Epstein Files Problem’

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) hit back at President Donald Trump after being accused of mortgage fraud and more in a brutal Truth Social post.
“Since I led his first impeachment, Trump has repeatedly called for me to be arrested for treason. So in a way, I guess this is a bit of a letdown,” Schiff wrote on Tuesday on X. “And this baseless attempt at political retribution won’t stop me from holding him accountable. Not by a long shot.”
In a Truth Social post, the president claimed that Fannie Mae’s Financial Crimes Division determined Schiff improperly declared a Maryland home as his primary residence.
“Adam Schiff said that his primary residence was in MARYLAND to get a cheaper mortgage and rip off America, when he must LIVE in CALIFORNIA,” Trump wrote in his lengthy post.
He called for Schiff to be “brought to justice.” Schiff has long been a target of Trump and a vocal critic. He was central to Trump’s first impeachment and later served on the congressional subcommittee that investigated the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Schiff called Trump’s latest attack on him “political retribution” and took a dig at the current “Epstein files” fallout, referring to MAGA backlash over a Department of Justice/FBI memo claiming there is no client list for the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, despite Attorney General Pam Bondi making reference to one in February.
Schiff also denied that he is committing any kind of fraud when it comes to his residences.
“This is just Donald Trump’s latest attempt at political retaliation against his perceived enemies,” the senator wrote. “So it is not a surprise, only how weak this false allegation turns out to be. And much as Trump may hope, this smear will not distract from his Epstein files problem.”
