Sean Hannity fired back at California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) — who claimed that the Fox News host was blindly accepting of President Donald Trump’s actions to “nationalize” American businesses.
In a series of posts on X Thursday, the Fox News host blithely dubbed Newsom “governor podcaster” — and, while not addressing Newsom’s criticism, fired several of his own at California’s chief executive.
“Gavin are you proud of the fact that your state has the highest income taxes in the nation?” Hannity wrote. “Are you proud of the fact your state has the highest sales taxes in the country? Are you proud of the fact your state has the highest gas taxes in the country? Now you only have the 6th highest corporate taxes in the country is it your goal to do better and become the highest taxed state for corporations?”
At a Wednesday forum in California hosted by Politicoepisode of Politico, Newsom pointed out the hypocrisy of conservatives pushing to nationalize businesses while condemning liberals like New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s plan for city-owned grocery stores. Specifically, Newsom called out the Trump administration over its recent announcement that they struck a deal for the U.S. government to take a 10 percent stake in American tech company Intel.
Newsom called out Hannity for giving Trump a pass on the Intel deal.
“Hey, Sean Hannity! You watching?” Newsom said.
In response, Hannity sarcastically wrote on X Thursday that it was “so nice” to hear from his old friend “Nutty Gavin Newsom.”
“As long as we are talking again (kind of) I do have some questions for you,” Hannity wrote.
Hannity went on to rattle off a laundry list of criticisms thinly disguised as questions:
In my next round of questions we can discuss 1-why your plan to end homelessness failed spectacularly, 2-California’s out of control Crime problem, 3-The debt and deficit problems in California, 4-quality of life issues in California and 5- Why so many people are leaving your state. Mr Part-time Governor, full time podcaster and full time tweety bird, it’s been a blast catching up. Thank you in advance for taking time away from Hating Donald Trump to (hopefully) answer these important questions!!
Hannity made numerous follow-up posts attacking Newsom’s policies on California being a “sanctuary state,” and accepting “immigrant crime,” but did not address the governor’s original question about the GOP dipping its toe into socialism.
