Shocking Body Cam Video Reveals Trump-Pardoned J6 Defendant’s Last Words As He’s Gunned Down In Traffic Stop
Shocking new bodycam video reveals pardoned January 6 defendant Matthew Huttle’s last words before he was fatally shot during a traffic stop last month.
President Donald Trump’s pardons and commutations for the January 6 defendants on his first day in office, including those who committed violence against police, drew widespread and bipartisan condemnation.
Huttle was among those pardoned after he and his uncle were convicted of offenses committed during the Capitol riot.
On Jan. 26, days after receiving the Trump pardon, Huttle was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Indiana.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department released body and dash cam footage Thursday night, which showed Huttle sprint for his car during the stop. As the sheriff’s deputy struggled with Huttle, the man told him “I’m shooting myself!”:
DEPUTY: You are at a felony status for driving while suspended. So today you are going to come with me.
MATTHEW HUTTLE: Well I can’t, I can’t.
DEPUTY: You’re going to have to. Okay. You’re going to come with me today. All right.
MATTHEW HUTTLE: No, I can’t go to jail for this.
DEPUTY: You’re going to have to come.
MATTHEW HUTTLE: Can I get a ride?
DEPUTY: No.
MATTHEW HUTTLE: Are you sure?
DEPUTY: This is a —
MATTHEW HUTTLE: I’ll violate my —
DEPUTY: Just listen to me, OK? Number one, it’s a felony offense. There’s no, there’s no leeway with felonies in the state of Indiana.
Now, maybe if it was a misdemeanor offense, I could work something out with you. But it’s not a misdemeanor. It’s a felony offense.
Okay. So that’s how I — that’s why I can’t work with you today. With it. Okay. I understand your circumstances, but you understand that you can’t drive. Okay, so your driving has resulted into this situation. Okay. Now, what I’m going to do, all right, is I’m going to put your information right here for a second. Why? Once you turn around, put your hands on the —

DEPUTY: No! Don’t you do it buddy! No no no no no!
(STRUGGLE INSIDE CAR)
MATTHEW HUTTLE: I’m shooting myself!
DEPUTY: No no no no no! (SHOTS FIRED)
The prosecutor’s office announced in a report that they found the deputy’s actions to be justified:
Probable cause existed to arrest Huttle for a felony. Despite lawful commands, Huttle attempted to reach for a firearm, posing an imminent threat to the Deputy’s safety. Given these facts, the Deputy’s actions were legally justified under Indiana law. This investigation is now closed, and no charges will be filed.
