‘So Stupid!’ Trump Lashes Out at Reporter as He’s Confronted About Stock Market Disaster on Air Force One
President Donald Trump lashed out at a reporter who confronted him about the stock market’s disastrous week, telling her “Your question is so stupid!”
The stock market dropped like a boulder as soon as the opening bell rang last Thursday morning after Trump announced his tariff program, and closed almost 1700 points in the hole — and that was before China announced reciprocal tariffs that sent futures crashing again. At Friday’s closing bell, the Dow was down another 2200 points. Futures and foreign markets plunged over the weekend, setting up anticipation of another selloff at Monday’s open.
On Sunday evening, Trump emerged into the press cabin aboard Air Force One to face questions from reporters for about fifteen minutes, during which the market turmoil came up repeatedly.
At one point, Trump lashed out at Bloomberg Chief Political Correspondent Annmarie Hordern, calling her question “stupid” and later refusing to answer another challenging question:
ANNMARIE HORDERN: Is there a Trump put, though, is there a mark– is there pain in the market at some point you’re unwilling to tolerate, this idea of a Trump-put? Is there threshold?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: I think your question is so stupid. I mean, I think it’s a, I don’t want anything to go down.
But sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something. And we have such a horrible, we have been treated so badly by other countries because we had stupid leadership that allowed this to happen.
They took our businesses, they took our money, they took out jobs, they moved it to Mexico, they moved to Canada, they move a lot of it to China. and it’s not sustainable, we’re not gonna do it.
Now we have hundreds of billions of dollars that’s pouring into our country on a monthly basis. It’s pouring, it’s already started because they put tariffs on it. And eventually it’s gonna straighten out and our country will be solid and strong again.
…
ANNMARIE HORDERN: Is it a negotiation now? Bloomberg, sir, is it a negotiation or rules of the road?
PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Go ahead, another question, please. She asks too many questions.
