Texas Dad Who Fled ‘Woke’ U.S. for Russia Sent to Frontlines: ‘Thrown to the Wolves’

A Texas man who fled “woke” America for Russia with his family in pursuit of traditional values, documenting the journey on YouTube, has reportedly been sent to the Ukrainian front to fight in President Vladimir Putin’s war.

Derek Huffman relocated his family to Russia through a Kremlin-backed “shared values” visa scheme, designed to attract Westerners disillusioned with liberal norms. But after signing up for military service under the assumption he’d serve in a non-combat role as a welder or war correspondent, Huffman now finds himself deployed “near” the front lines in Ukraine, according to his wife, DeAnna Huffman.

She believed Huffman, who had no military experience and a poor grasp of the Russian language, had been misled during the military recruiting process.

“Unfortunately, when you’re taught in a different language, and you don’t understand the language, how are you really getting taught?” DeAnna Huffman apparently asked in a vlog. “He feels like he’s being thrown to the wolves.”

After a Father’s Day message, Huffman sent a further update telling his family about the challenges of training, saying he’d been “pushed” to his “limits.”

After their move, the couple were embraced by Russian state media for rejecting “progressive overreach” in the US. Huffman told Russia Today his daughter’s classroom exposure to lesbian topics was “the final straw.”

He said: “The point of this act for me is to earn a place here in Russia. If I risk myself for our new country, no one will say that I am not a part of it. Unlike migrants in America who come there just like that, do not assimilate, and at the same time want free handouts.”
