‘The Face of Evil’: Ramsey County Sheriff Posts Photo of Minnesota Shooting Suspect Vance Boelter During Arrest
The office of Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher published a photograph of the Sunday night arrest of Vance Boelter, accused killer in the deadly Minnesota shooting targeting state Democrats just days ago.
“The face of evil,” the post on the Facebook page for the Sheriff’s Office began. “After relentless and determined police work, the killer is now in custody.”
“Thanks to the dedication of multiple agencies working together along with support from the community, justice is one step closer,” they wrote above the photograph.
State Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Speaker of the Minnesota House, and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed early Saturday at their home in Brooklyn Park by a man posing as a police officer. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, were also shot and were hospitalized, and are now recovering, thanks to exceptional work by local police responding to the two scenes.
The news of the arrest broke on Sunday, first on social media, and was quickly confirmed through sources by multiple media outlets before it was then made official by the Sheriff.
Speculation about Boelter’s motive for the heinous crime targeting Democrats has been a volatile point of discussion in political circles, on social media, and among elected officials since the news of the crime first broke. While many on the left blamed President Donald Trump and the Republicans for alleged “incitement”, many on the right pointed fingers at former Democratic vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for his rhetoric.
The story was further complicated by the revelation that Boelter is a former political appointee of Walz, and he had anti-abortion literature and papers with references to the “No Kings” protest in his vehicle, and a list of other targets for his planned killing spree consisting mainly of pro-choice politicians.
Officials have not yet outlined the specific motive, outside of the fact that he was deliberately targeting Democrats in the horrific shootings, in which he dressed as a police officer to lure the targets to the door.
