Trump Calls on Nation to ‘Pray for Charlie Kirk’ After Shooting: ‘GOD BLESS HIM!’

President Donald Trump called on the nation to “pray for Charlie Kirk” on Wednesday after the right-wing activist and Turning Point USA founder was reportedly shot at an event at Utah Valley University.

“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” wrote Trump in a post on Truth Social.

Kirk is a longtime supporter of Trump who helped lead the president’s get-out-the-vote operation during his successful 2024 presidential campaign.

“You need to go to every single person you know and say, ‘Are you voting for Trump?’” Kirk told a crowd at a Trump campaign event in Georgia last October.

Video posted by social media users online indicates Kirk was shot in the neck. A university alert informed students on campus that “A single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker. Police are investigating now, suspect in custody.” Subsequently, police announced that they had determined that the man they had detained was not actually the shooter.

FBI Director Kash Patel issued the following statement:

We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation.
