President Donald Trump posted to his Truth Social on Tuesday, saying to “CALL IN THE TROOPS” to save “The Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Chicago” – which doesn’t exist.

“The Miracle Mile Shopping Center in Chicago, once considered our Nation’s BEST, now has a more than 28% vacancy factor, and is ready to call it quits unless something is done about the murder and crime, which is prevalent throughout the City,” Trump wrote, adding:

CALL IN THE TROOPS, FAST, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE! “Just the News”

Media outlets were quick to report that no such shopping center exists, however. “Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Monroeville, Pennsylvania, all have shopping malls or centers by that name, but none exist in Chicago or even in Illinois. There is, however, a Magnificent Mile shopping district in Chicago, which the president likely was referring to. The Magnificent Mile spans 13 blocks in downtown Chicago and offers high-end shopping and fine dining,” wrote Kelly Corbett for Syracuse.com.

On November 8th, The Washington Examiner ran a report titled, “Chicago downtown office space vacancy rate jumps to record high levels.” The report cited the 28% figure Trump noted in his post. “With Chicago’s downtown office vacancy rate now at a record-high 28%, Illinois Policy Institute researcher LyLena Estabine says city policymakers have become their own worst enemy when it comes to addressing the area’s changing demographics,” wrote the Examiner.

Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops to American cities to fight crime has roiled American politics and led to multiple court challenges and a tense war of words between local leaders and the president. The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to allow National Guard troops into Chicago after a lower court sided with the governor and blocked the deployment.
