Trump Insists U.S. is Doing ‘Better Than Anybody Expected’ in Iran — As House Votes to End the War

The United States is “doing better than anybody expected” in the war with Iran, President Donald Trump said Thursday, approximately an hour before the House of Representatives voted to end the conflict.

The nonbinding resolution passed 214-208 with the help of four Republicans joining 210 Democrats: Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), Tom Barrett (R-MI), Warren Davidson (R-OH), and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA).

“I just want to leave you by saying that it’s an honor to be here,” Trump said during a rambling 20-minute speech at the EPA Headquarters in D.C. “I’m going over now to talk about various and sundry subjects. One is the Iran war, where again we are doing very well, very, very well. I would say better than anybody expected could be done.”

“We’ve knocked out their Navy, their Air Force, all of their radar, most of their capability in terms of manufacturing. Their drones are down 84%. Missiles are down 91%,” Trump continued. “I had a newspaper say, ‘They are in a stronger position today than they were four months ago’. No. That’s not the truth. That’s not right. I can’t believe they are allowed to say it. New York Times said they are in stronger positions… they have no military, no Navy. They had 159 ships. Every one is at the bottom of the sea. They had 212 airplanes. Every one is gone. They have no radar. They have no anti-aircraft, no nothing. Other than they’re mean and they’re smart and they still have some capability.”

For the curious: CENTCOM claimed the United States destroyed more than 60 of Iran’s naval ships in March, when the country had approximately 97 in service. Numbers to back up Trump’s Air Force claim were not readily available, though it should be noted a June 2026 report stated Iran had “severely damaged” an American Air Ops Center in Qatar. Reports from March appear to indicate Iran heavily damaged American radar systems, and the U.S. fired strikes at Iranian radar systems in June.

Many manufacturing plants in Iran have shuttered due to the war. It’s unclear where Trump’s claims about Iranian drones and missiles came from.

The president’s comments also come as he’s preparing to make a decision about escalating the war. Trump told Axios today, “I am considering a massive attack. Bigger than ever before. I am close to making a decision. We are all set for it.”
