Trump Says He ‘May Call’ Tim Walz After Minnesota Lawmaker Assassinated — While Trashing Him as ‘Terrible’ and ‘Grossly Incompetent’

President Donald Trump blasted Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) in response to a question about whether he plans to call the governor following the assassination of a Democratic lawmaker in Walz’s state.
Speaking with ABC’s Rachel Scott on Sunday, the president pulled no punches when asked whether he plans to speak with the governor — following the assassination of Democratic Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman.
“Well, it’s a terrible thing,” Trump told Scott. “I think he’s a terrible governor. I think he’s a grossly incompetent person. But I may — I may call him. I may call other people too.”
Walz said the attacks on Hortman and Democratic State Senator John Hoffman — who survived multiple gunshot wounds — were “politically motivated.”
Trump’s remarks bashing Walz represent a markedly different tone than the one he sounded on Saturday, shortly after the attacks.
“Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America,” Trump said — condemning the attacks. “God Bless the great people of Minnesota, a truly great place!”
Trump and Walz have relentlessly feuded for much of the past year, since Walz was tapped as the Democratic nominee for vice president.
“The guy’s a loser,” Trump said in the Oval Office on March 21.
Walz has slammed recent immigration raids carried out by ICE and said that Trump is using ICE as “his modern-day Gestapo.”
