President Donald Trump believes the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran which he announced Monday will “go forever.”

The president made the bold prediction in an interview with Yamiche Alcindor of NBC News Monday night.

“I think the ceasefire is unlimited,” Trump said. “It’s going to go forever.”

Trump took full credit for having struck the agreement — which, according to reports, was brokered with the help of Qatar.

“It’s a great day for America,” Trump said. “It’s a great day for the Middle East. I’m very happy to have been able to get the job done. A lot of people were dying, and it was only going to get worse. It would have brought the whole Middle East down.”

Trump underscored the permanence of the deal by insisting to Alcindor that he doesn’t believe Israel and Iran “will ever be shooting at each other again.”

Reuters is among the outlets reporting that Iran has confirmed the agreement. From the Israel side, a spokesperson for the Israeli military declined comment to the New York Times a short time ago.
