WATCH: Good Samaritans Leap Into Action to Stop Kidnapping of Mom and 2 Kids

A handful of good Samaritans were seen jumping into action in Jacksonville, Florida, where a mother’s two children were nearly kidnapped outside a Department of Motor Vehicles office, a stunning video shows.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released footage of the incident, which took place on March 12, to social media this week. The footage shows a woman desperately trying to remove her 2-year-old and 6-month-old children from her SUV as a man attempts to drive away with them. A group of onlookers can be seen crowding the vehicle, stopping it, and grabbing the woman and her children.

The suspect was identified as 26-year-old Yanni Human. He managed to flee the scene after bystanders stepped in, but he was caught and arrested later that day. He is facing charges of false imprisonment, child abuse, battery, marijuana possession, and resisting arrest.

“More than a dozen Jacksonville Good Samaritans stepped in during a dangerous situation, potentially saving a mother and two children from serious injury or worse,” the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office wrote.

Human struck the woman in the face and then attempted to drive off with the children as she was unbuckling one of them according to the arrest affidavit. Officers confronted him later that day at a shopping center based on descriptions from witnesses.

“This situation could have ended in tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said. “Your JSO is grateful for the quick action and bravery of the Good Samaritans who stepped up and helped bring the suspect to justice.”
