WATCH: Mitch McConnell Gives Rare Interview, Gets Testy With CBS’ Brennan After She Asks if He is ‘Able to Continue Serving’
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) granted rare interviews to two of the Sunday morning talk shows — Fox’s Fox News Sunday, and CBS’ Face the Nation. And in the latter, the Kentucky Senator was confonted about his health, in the wake of two recent incidents where he froze up for long stretches during press conferences.
CBS’ Margaret Brennan put the question directly to McConnell during his appearance on Face the Nation Sunday.
“People wonder about your health,” Brennan said. “How are you feeling? How are you doing?”
McConnell was short with his reply.
“I’m fine,” McConnell said. “I’m completely recovered and just fine.”
Brennan quizzed the senator on whether he had any further medical information to share.
“You and your office felt the need to to share and disclose some of the details about your health because of some of these public incidents,” Brennan said. “And the doctor here said there was no evidence of Parkinson’s disease or a stroke or a seizure. And I wonder, is there anything the public should know that wasn’t disclosed?”
Once again, McConnell was short.
“I’m in good shape,” he said. “Completely recovered and back on the job.”
Brennan pressed once more.
“So does that mean that you think you are able to continue serving and you want to continue serving here at a time when we are talking about incredible dysfunction in Washington?” Brennan asked
And this time, McConnell get testy.
“I think we ought to be talking about what we were talking about earlier,” McConnell said, referring to the part of the interview which largely gravitated around foreign policy. “Rather than my health.”
