X CEO Linda Yaccarino took to the social media platform she oversees to call out anti-Semitism but failed to cite Elon Musk. It did not go over well.

Musk was called out Wednesday evening after he replied to an anti-Semitic post by telling its author that he had “said the actual truth.” The post in question read:

Jewish communties [sic] have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them. I’m deeply disinterested in giving the tiniest shit now about Western Jewish populations coming to the disturbing realization that those hordes of minorities that support flooding their country don’t exactly like them too much. You want truth said to your face, there it is.

“This is literally the conspiracy theory espoused by the white supremacist who massacred the Pittsburgh Tree of Life synagogue. Musk approves. I have no further commentary,” said The Atlantic’s Yair Rosenberg. That was but one example of vocal and bipartisan outrage over Musk’s amplification of anti-Semitic tropes, which has led some brands to drop advertising from X.

Yaccarino tried to clean up the mess by calling out antisemitism in a post that failed to mention the problem that her boss seems willing to foster, writing:

X’s point of view has always been very clear that discrimination by everyone should STOP across the board — I think that’s something we can and should all agree on. When it comes to this platform — X has also been extremely clear about our efforts to combat antisemitism and discrimination. There’s no place for it anywhere in the world — it’s ugly and wrong. Full stop.

This did not go over well. Legendary entertainment reporter Kim Masters summed it up in the most pithy way imaginable:

Louise Mensch asked, “Is this a joke? Seriously are you joking? Do you understand how much antisemitism there is right now on this platform? And the algorithmic moderation rejects all reports of it….?”

Chasten Buttigieg mocked Yaccarino by sarcastically asking, “Is this a thread? I can’t find the part about your boss.”

Lawyer Tristan Snell opined, “The old Twitter would’ve suspended Elon’s account after this week. Full stop.”

And there’s more, but you get the gist. Yaccarino may regret the heaping pile of hate she stepped in, but she seems unwilling to try to wipe it off her shoes any time soon.
