James Carville decided to throw shade at the late Charlie Kirk while remembering his friend, filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was murdered along with his wife Michele Singer Reiner earlier this week.

On his Politics War Room podcast on Thursday, Carville and co-host Al Hunt fondly remembered Reiner for his films and advocacy work. Carville described him as a “friend” and said it was “hard to come up with someone who had more cultural impact” on his life.

Hunt blasted President Donald Trump’s statement on the murder of the Reiners as “abhorrent,” and slammed Republicans who have refused to condemn the comments. The president took to Truth Social and suggested “Trump Derangement Syndrome” was behind the Reiners’ deaths. The statement has been met with bipartisan backlash.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome,” alas, has not been part of the investigation by police. The Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, is being charged with first degree murder and is accused of stabbing his parents to death. Nick Reiner, 32, has a long history of drug abuse and mental health struggles.

Carville and Hunt noted that Trump’s statements on the September assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk were far more respectful and that conservatives grew angry with liberals making light of Kirk’s murder.

Carville compared Kirk and Reiner by declaring that Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was not a “pimple on Rob Reiner’s a**” in terms of influence or “anything else.”

He said:

I’m sorry. I don’t want anybody to get shot…young kids, I hate that, but Charlie Kirk was not a pimple on Rob Reiner’s a** when it comes to influence, when it comes to impact, when it comes to anything else. I don’t want to say anything bad, but for God’s sake, don’t dare compare Charlie Kirk to Rob Reiner. That’s not fair.

Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with Kirk’s murder.

Reiner’s own words about Kirk’s murder went viral after news of the filmmaker’s death. While the two were valleys apart when it comes to politics, Reiner said he felt “absolute horror” over Kirk’s murder.

“That should never happen to anybody,” he said at the time. “I don’t care what your political beliefs are, that’s not acceptable. That’s not a solution to solving problems. And I felt like what his wife said at the service, at the memorial they had, was exactly right.”

On Politics War Room, Carville went on to blast the president further over his Reiner statement, claiming he “lacks a human reflex.”

“I think if there was a medical test to test for if you’re a human being or not, I think it’d come back negative [for him],” he said. “I really do.”
