‘I Wish They’d Let Him Run!’ James Carville Sounds Off on Trump Third Term

James Carville responded to talk of a third term for President Donald Trump by saying he wishes Trump could legally run again.

On Thursday’s edition of Politics War Room, Carville and co-host Al Hunt answered questions from listeners and one asked about the growing talk around Trump somehow running for a third term. Trump himself acknowledged he’s “not allowed” to run in 2028, despite sometimes teasing the possibility, but close ally Steve Bannon has promised there is already a plan in motion.

The 22nd Amendment forbids people from being elected to the White House more than twice, but Bannon and others have claimed there are ways around this, like Trump running as vice president and the top candidate stepping down.

“It’s just all conjecture from people who like to have fun,” Hunt said.

Carville added that he’d love to see Trump run again, predicting he’d be clobbered in another election. The Democratic strategist said the language of the 22nd Amendment is clear, but he could also see the Supreme Court not “giving a s**t.”

He said:

I’ll get that question sometimes, and I get almost irritated by it. Understand, Trump couldn’t win — I wish they’d let him run! I don’t think he’s anywhere close going to be sufficiently healthy in another three something, you know, over three years to do anything. But he would lose so bad, and the Supreme Court, the language of the 22nd Amendment couldn’t be any clearer. I don’t think they’d give a s**t. The language of the 14th Amendment couldn’t be any clearer. You think that they care if this is what would protect corporate power? John Roberts don’t give a s**t.

Carville blamed Democrats for Trump’s 2024 victory, saying they “almost forced” people to support Trump.

“They’re not going to do that because they know that Trump would get slaughtered. The only way he won was that we almost forced people to vote for him,” he said, adding, “If he ran today, there’s no way he’d be elected.”
