James Carville Declares DNC ‘Needs’ David Hogg After Debate With ‘Contemptible Twerp’ He Said Should Dems Should Sue
All it took for 80-year-old James Carville and 25-year-old David Hogg to find common ground was one fiery Zoom call.
Carville took to X after debating Carville on Tara Palmeri’s podcast to declare that the Democratic National Committee “needs” Hogg, who is the organization’s co-vice chair. Carville had previously slammed Hogg as a “contemptible twerp” who should be sued by the DNC over his recently-announced plan to spend $20 million to challenge incumbent Democrats and encourage younger, more diverse voices in primaries. Hogg, meanwhile, has argued Carville and other Democrats are too “timid” to help the party’s falling approval ratings.
“Just called [David Hogg]. He reminded me of the story of, after the battle of Shiloh, Henry Halleck urged President [Abraham] Lincoln to fire Ulysses Grant. Lincoln said: ‘I can’t fire him. This man fights.’ David Hogg fights. The DNC needs him,” Carville wrote.
In a Politicon video following the debate, Carville maintained that Hogg “made a mistake.”
“David Hogg made a mistake. Ken Martin should call him in, read the riot act, pass a resolution saying you can’t do this and get on with life. But if we’re going to chase every goddamn 25-year-old that says some jackass thing out of the party and under the grounds of some allocated positions based on gender or ethnicity or whatever the fuck they do, we’re just doing the same thing. We never learn!” he said.
DNC Chair Ken Martin objected to Hogg’s plan during a conference call, saying, “we can’t be both the referee and also the player at the same time” in elections.
Carville told Hogg during their debate that his primary plan was “abominable.”
“You have to understand the nuance here—” Hogg said.
“I don’t, Carville said. “There’s no nuance to it. It’s just flat-out wrong. That’s money that could be used to beat Republicans to beat Democrats.”
“What is your plan to deal with our abominable approval rating?” Hogg asked.
“Win elections!” Carville said.
The two managed to find common ground and now appear aligned. Hogg responded to Carville’s message about the DNC needing him by offering thanks.
“Thank you James. It’s gonna take all of us to build the strongest Democratic Party in American history to defeat Donald Trump and revive the American dream,” he wrote.
