Megyn Kelly Tells Mike Rowe To Blow Off Gavin Newsom Podcast: Don’t ‘Help Train This Guy’

Megyn Kelly told Mike Rowe he’d be better off turning down an invitation to appear on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D) podcast, arguing the Democrat is only speaking to conservatives to train up for 2028.

On The Megyn Kelly Show, Rowe revealed during a discussion about former First Lady Michelle Obama’s podcast that he’d been invited to appear on Newsom’s newly-launched show. The California governor has used his podcast to speak with right-wing pundits like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk.

“He’s running for president,” Kelly declared about Newsom’s podcast.

“He invited me on. What do you think I should do?” Rowe asked.

“I don’t support it,” Kelly said. “My feeling is Gavin Newsom is using people to build up his skills so that he can more effectively debate the Republican nominee in 2028.”

“Even if someone goes on and cleans his clock?” Rowe asked.

Both agreed Kirk did a good job in his sit-down with the governor where Newsom at one point asked Kirk to give “advice” to Democrats.

Kelly argued that even if Newsom loses a debate on his podcast, it still only helps him politically moving forward, likening it to Americans help train Russian boxer Ivan Drago to fight Rocky Balboa in Rocky IV.

“Gavin Newsom took some blows, but emerged having learned something probably that he’ll be better at handling in 2028,” Kelly said. “I just don’t think it’s the job of the right to help train this guy. I likened it to the Rocky vs. Drago fight in Rocky IV. Why would we help train the Russian?”

Rowe, head of mikeroweWorks Foundation and former host of Dirty Jobs, played devil’s advocate by bringing up backlash to liberal comedian Bill Maher visiting the White House and breaking bread with President Donald Trump. Maher has been plenty critical of the president since the visit, but he said Trump was “gracious” during their meeting, which was put together by MAGA-loyal musician Kid Rock.

“If the president of the United States invites you for dinner, you should go. I would have gone if it were Joe Biden, Barack Obama. In a heartbeat I would do that,” Kelly said.

“Absolutely,” Rowe agreed.

MIKE ROWE: What’s happening with people at that level in podcasts? What’s Gavin Newsom doing?

MEGYN KELLY: He’s running for president. That one makes more sense to me strategically. [Michelle Obama] should be in her therapist’s office, her brother Craig is not —

ROWE: He invited me on. What do you think I should do?

KELLY: I don’t support it. Well, my feeling is Gavin Newsom is using people to build up his skills so that he can more effectively debate the Republican nominee in 2028.

ROWE: Even if somebody goes on and cleans his clock.

KELLY: Yeah, which basically happened with —

ROWE: Charlie Kirk.

KELLY: Charlie Kirk. But it’s — that’s not good. Gavin Newsom took some blows, but emerged having learned something probably that he’ll be better at handling in 2028. And I just don’t think it’s the job of the right to help train this guy. I likened it to the Rocky versus Drago fight in Rocky IV. Why would we help train the Russian?

ROWE: Do you think there was an argument that went the other way when Bill Maher went to the White House? Like, you hear Larry David wrote that editorial, My Dinner with Adolf, and there’s this idea that it’s like, look, that’s a bridge too far and you’re just simply lending credibility by the very proximity of your presence. I get both, you know?

KELY: I think that makes no sense. If the president of the United States invites you for dinner, you should go no matter who it is. I would have gone if it were Joe Biden, Barack Obama, I would do that.

ROWE: Absolutely.

KELLY: You get to see the White House. Trump is very — he’s a gratuitous when you come there here. He’s gracious is the word I’m looking for. He gives everybody a tour. It seems like almost everybody is shown the Lincoln Bedroom. Who wouldn’t want to see that?
