Mike Francesa Yells At Staff For Minutes Before Realizing He’s Live: ‘You Guys Have Got To Be Kidding Me’

Longtime sports radio talk show host Mike Francesa apologized to his audience for an “outburst” after realizing he was broadcasting live while getting heated with his staff.

On The Mike Francesa Podcast on Friday, Francesa was talking when one of his staff members began talking to him through his headset. The clip was ultimately edited out of the podcast, but it was saved and posted to X by the account Funhouse.

“Excuse me, who’s correcting me? Hello? Stop. Break the tape,” Francesa said.

He then repeatedly asked who it was that spoke to him.

“What were you guys talking about? Because I heard it in my headset. I thought you were talking to me. Now, who said that the Big East has been won already?” Francesa asked.

He would go on to correct his staffer, explaining the Big East would not be won until the following night.

“Okay, one of you guys just said that St. John’s has won the Big East Tournament. They have not won the title yet. You win the title tomorrow night. The championship trophy goes with tomorrow night’s winner. It does not go with the regular season champion. It can’t because if it did, why the hell would you have a tournament? So you’re wrong about that. The title goes to who wins tomorrow,” he said.

Francesa continued by saying “whoever said that doesn’t know what they’re talking about” and directing his staff not to talk into his headphones. He then said he wanted to “start over” because he appeared to be under the impression the broadcast was not live and his staff cut the film when he told them to “break the tape.”

Francesa realized he was live, apologized, and predicted him yelling at his staff would be going viral.

“We’re live? This was all on the air, me just yelling at you guys? What? You gotta be kidding me. You guys have got to be kidding me. All right, I apologize for that outburst, okay, folks? I didn’t realize we were live, I thought we were taping this, okay? That’s my mistake, I didn’t realize that. Now — so this is going to go viral now because I yelled at you guys, you realize that?”
