WaPo Editorial Board Bashes Bernie Sanders For ‘Fiction-Filled Campaign’

bernie sandersThe Washington Post apparently isn’t feeling the Bern.

The paper’s editorial board wrote a scathing editorial Wednesday titled “Bernie Sanders’ fiction-filled campaign,” attacking the candidate for promising a massive overhaul of America’s economic system that they believed was unrealistic.

“Mr. Sanders is not a brave truth-teller,” the editors write. “He is a politician selling his own brand of fiction to a slice of the country that eagerly wants to buy it.”

They point in particular to his unclear plan to change Wall Street culture, and his “fantastical” promise to lower healthcare costs by enacting socialized healthcare with only moderate tax increases. “He would be a braver truth-teller if he explained how he would go about rationing health care like European countries do…” they write. “Instead, he promises large benefits and few drawbacks.”

“Mr. Sanders is a lot like many other politicians…” they conclude. “When reality is ideologically or politically inconvenient, he and his campaign talk around it. Mr. Sanders’s success so far does not show that the country is ready for a political revolution. It merely proves that many progressives like being told everything they want to hear.”
