The girlfriend of University of North Carolina football coach Bill Belichick was caught on a hot mic trashing NFL Films graphic designers during a meeting about the coach’s then-upcoming show.
The footage was obtained by sports writer Pablo Torre and revealed on his show Pablo Torre Finds Out on Friday. In the clip, Belichick and longtime coach Matt Patricia were taping their 2024 NFL Films show Coach. While discussing the graphics that would be on display at the two talked about coaching strategies against NFL teams, Jordon Hudson — Belichick’s girlfriend — stepped in to offer constructive criticism. She first took issue with the actual game plan displayed on the screen in front of them, arguing that it was “self-explanatory” to say that one of the keys to the game was to keep the other team out of the end zone.
Hudson also poked holes in the graphics. In a later portion of the video, she was seen giving the production pointers on how to use Adobe Photoshop to effectively make the desired graphics. She even touted her work on Belichick’s personal website, noting that she had “zero real graphic experience.”
Then, Torre paused to introduced a segment of the video in which Hudson and Belichick started trashing the graphic designers that were employed for the show:
HUDSON: I don’t know how they have four full-time graphics people.
BELICHICK: They can’t do shit.
HUDSON: Right.
BELICHICK: That’s not really Joe’s thing. That’s something that I was talking about. That’s not really Joe’s thing. Like, could we teach him to do it? Yeah, but then he becomes a graphics guy; and it’s not — we need somebody who did that for us, and we have to figure out who’s available to do that, you know?
HUDSON: Who knows how to arrange the stats? Because I have a graphics person who helped me with the —
BELICHICK: We need a football person.
HUDSON: I think they’re using all of the Underdog people from the other things that don’t know how to do anything else aside from what they do on all the other shows, which honestly, frankly, really isn’t that good.
BELICHICK: Not the same.
HUDSON: The same thing that we ran, like, the final thing for the “Coach” logo that we ended up with was, like, white letters and a black background. I was like, “I’m not doing that.” Make it leather. Like, make it something.
Torre later noted that the dynamic displayed in that video was similar to what UNC football has experienced since Belichick took the job.
